There was apprehension yesterday at the basement of the Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan (UI), among business centres operators, who got to their shops to find out that robbers have stolen their three generators and one generator’s battery.
According to the affected individuals, the robbers stole one generator on Monday, April 25, 2022 and came back the following day to steal two more and a battery.
The robbers dismantled the generating sets and made away with the parts.
According to the victims, “We don’t know who did this but we know that one person could not have done this. The robbers went to where we put our generators, stole one ‘I better pass my neighbour’ generator. We reported to the security. We were not expecting them to come back the following day. If we had known that they would come back, we would have removed all the generators from where they were and keep them where they cannot be stolen. These robbers came back the second day and stole extra two generating sets and one battery”.
“They also cut our wire and went with all of those things. The last two generating sets stolen cannot be less than N150,000. Where do we get money to buy another generators. We don’t have money, we are just managing. We have also reported the matter to the campus security that the thieves came back to steal two generators. What is quite pathetic is that the campus security may not be able to arrest the thieves. Those campus security personnel have not arrested criminals. Criminals will come to UI, operate and escape. We have never seen security arresting hoodlums on campus”, they added.
