The Bauchi State Police Command is investigating the alleged murder of 20-year-old security guard Polmi Dauda. They are treating the case as a potential culpable homicide.
The command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Ahmed Wakili, issued a statement on Sunday. He assured the public of a diligent investigation.
According to the police report, the victim’s brother, Danda Dauda, first brought the case to light. He lodged a complaint with the Bauchi Metro Area Command on March 22, 2025, at approximately 12:50 p.m. The case was then transferred to the E Divisional Police Headquarters in Yelwa for deeper scrutiny.
Preliminary findings show that Polmi Dauda sustained severe injuries after an altercation with several individuals. The incident occurred near Larema Hotel, where he was employed. Despite being rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the dispute may have arisen from allegations of theft involving a tenant’s clothing and personal belongings. Authorities have identified four suspects allegedly linked to the confrontation. The suspects are Ibrahim Yahaya, a pharmacist at ATBUTH. Another is Musa Awwal, a medical doctor at ATBUTH. They also include Imrana Ibrahim, a local businessman. The last is Zakariya’u Isah, another security guard.
All four suspects have been taken into custody and are providing crucial information to aid the investigation. Meanwhile, the deceased’s body has been deposited at the ATBUTH mortuary for a postmortem examination.
The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police has issued instructions to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). They are to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the case. He has also urged the public to stay calm and allow due process to take its course.
