In a series of high-profile security operations, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS) have intercepted arms and drug smuggling activities in different parts of the country, leading to multiple arrests and recoveries.
According to a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said, in the first operation, which took place on December 23, 2024, at about 5:50 PM, security operatives intercepted Hauwa Sani, a 30-year-old resident of Doro village, along the Keffi/Abuja Expressway.
She was found in possession of 124 rounds of live ammunition of various calibres, which she had cleverly concealed inside a 5-litre container of palm oil.

Upon interrogation, Sani confessed that she was tasked by one Nasiru of Daura to deliver the ammunition to Katsina State. Authorities have since launched further investigations, leading to additional recoveries and arrests, which are currently being profiled.
In another operation on February 1, 2025, FID-STS operatives, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted Alhaji Usman Yahaya (50), Joseph Matthew (27), and Solomon Bala (25), all residents of Potiskum, Yobe State.
The suspects were caught while transporting 30 cartons of codeine syrups and other hard drugs around Potiskum. During interrogation, they admitted that the illicit substances were intended for supply to bandits, Boko Haram insurgents, and kidnappers operating in Yobe State and neighbouring countries.

The security crackdown continued on February 3, 2025, when FID-STS operatives apprehended Yusuf Dantani (24), Usman Labaran (32), and Musa Mohammed (23) in possession of 10 AK-47 rifles.
The suspects later confessed to being involved in an arms trade, revealing that they received N3,980,000 for their last batch of weapons.
The authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or items to security agencies to curb the rising threat of arms and drug smuggling.
