The former Governor of Ekiti State, Engr Segun Oni today obtained his expression of interest and nomination forms, to contest the 2022 Gubernatorial Election in the state under Nigeria’s main opposition’s political, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The two forms were bought at the PDP national headquarters, Abuja by Oni’s Campaign Director.
Olusegun Oni, according to his profile obtained online, was born at Ifaki Ekiti on Sunday, September 5, 1954 to late Pa Hezekiah Adebomi Oni, Baba Ijo Methodist Church Cathedral, Ilogbe, Ifaki- Ekiti, and his wife Comfort Ajayi Oni. They are indegenes of in Ifaki Ekiti. He attended Methodist School, Ilogbe, Ifaki, for his primary school education, which he completed in 1964. Afterward, he attended Methodist Secondary Modern School, Ifaki Ekiti (1965-1968) and Wesley College, Ibadan (1969-1971) for his post primary education.
He secured admission to University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife to study Chemical Engineering. He completed the programme in 1979 with a Second Class Upper division. He observed his mandatory National Youth Service Corps scheme (NYSC) between 1979 and 1980 at National Steel Development Authority (NSDA) Ajaokuta, later Ajaokuta Steel Company (ASCO). In September 1980, he returned to school and was in University of Lagos, Akoka for the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme from September 1980 to January 1982.
Among the places he has worked are: Methodist School, Ilogbe, Ifaki (school Librarian), Community Secondary Modern School, Ido Ekiti, where he taught Arithmetic, Mathematics and Geography, Ayetoro-Iloro High School, Ayetoro/Iloro Ekiti where he taught Physics, Mathematics and Yoruba. He also taught in CMS Grammar School, Bariga and Anthony Village High School where he taught Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. He further worked in Delta Steel Company Ltd, Aladja, Leventis Staff Development Centre of AG Leventis & Co. Ebute Metta and Public Finance and Management Consultants Ltd, Rank Xerox Nigeria Ltd.
Segun later ventured into partisan politics by joining United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP), after which, he moved into PDP. He also had a brief stint with All Progressive Congress (APC) and moved back to PDP for the actalisation of his political dream.
He once served Ekiti State as a governor. He is a member of Board of Trustees of Education Trust Fund (ETF) as Trustee representing the South West.
