The red chamber in Nigeria has elected the former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, as the new Senate President.
Akpabio representing Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District defeated Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari from Zamfara West Senatorial District to emerge as the 10th National Assembly Senate President.
The Clerk of the National Assembly, Sani Tambuwal declared Akpabio as the Senate President having garnered 63 votes leaving his rival with 46 votes.
Also, Senator-elect for Kano North, Jubril Barau, emerged as Deputy Senate President.
