As the House of Representatives push the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio to the wall by threatening to sue him for defamation and perjury over his allegations that its members are corrupt and frequently cornering the juicy contract from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the Minister has released the names of federal lawmakers that the commission has awarded contracts to.
One of the lawmakers who have been awarded NDDC contracts is the Chairman, Senate committee on Niger Delta, Peter Nwabaoshi, who allegedly collected 53 projects from the commission.
Akpabio said that the lawmaker got the contract of emergency repairs of Asue Street, Owa Phase 2; ldumuogbe Road via Ojemaye; Otolokpo College Road, Otolokpo; and the Police lshu Ani Ukwu Road, Issele Uku, in Delta State.
Also, Akpabio said Senator Matthew Urhoghide and Senator James Manager have been awarded six contracts each and a former senator, Samuel Anyanwu, got 19 projects.
Furthermore, the former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the NDDC, Nicholas Mutu got 74 contracts, which include but not limited to emergency roads in Delta, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Rivers states.
It was stated that the contracts were awarded in 2018.
