A wave of grief and outrage has swept across Adamawa State following the brutal murder of a prominent youth leader, Thomas Godwin, widely known as ‘Zamfara’. The incident, which occurred on the night of Tuesday, 15 April 2025, has left the community in mourning and sparked calls for justice.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the tragic development. “Preliminary reports indicate that the victim was attacked by unknown person(s) while returning home. Zamfara was beaten with sticks and clubs, resulting in his death,” Nguroje stated.
The motive behind the killing remains unclear, but police say a full-scale investigation is underway. Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Investigation (DC SCID) to spearhead efforts to uncover the culprits behind the attack.
“A team of detectives has been deployed to ensure that the perpetrators are identified and brought to justice,” Nguroje said. He also called on the public to support the investigation by sharing any useful information that may assist the police.
The news of Zamfara’s death has triggered widespread condemnation and sorrow across the state, particularly among youth groups and civil society organisations. His burial, held earlier today, was attended by notable dignitaries, including the Senator representing Adamawa Central Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Aminu Iya Abbas, and the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Wesley Bathiya.
