At least six people were alleged to have been killed in a fatal road accident that occurred around 7am on Monday August 9, 2021, in Ibadan, capital of Oyo State, Nigeria.
According to eye witnesses, the accident occurred at Celica, in Adegbayi Area of Ibadan.
The suspected cause of the accident is brake failure and loss of control.
It was gathered that as a result of brake failure, the truck rammed into a Micra and the two vehicles fell off the bridge into the river at Celica, Ibadan.
One of the eye-witnesses identified as Sunday explained, “I was sitting somewhere there and I noticed that the brake of the truck had failed. The truck was coming from Iyana Agbala side, along Ibadan-Ife Expressway. When the driver realized that his brake had failed, he started shouting brake failure, brake failure. There is a Micra in front of it that wanted to carry a passenger. After carrying a passenger, as it was about to negotiate his way back to the road, the truck hit the Micra and the two vehicles fell inside a bridge. The Micra is under the truck”.
As at the time of filing this report, members of the Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria (FRSC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Oyo State Fire Service were at the scene of the incident, trying to pull the two vehicles out of the river.
