South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed an economist and former Nigerian finance minister, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a member of the country’s Economic Advisory Council.
The Council, which is chaired by the president himself, comprises of local and international economic thought leaders bringing together prominent economists and technical experts drawn from academia, private sector, labour, community, think tanks and other constituencies.
This appointment is coming just a day after Okonjo-Iweala made Forbe Africa’s list of 50 most powerful women in Africa.
South Africa slipped into recession in March, the second in two years.
