Two young men lost their lives in a tragic accident on Thursday, March 13, 2025, along the Ile-Oluji-Ondo Itanla road in Ondo State. The fatal incident occurred around 11 a.m. when a stray cow suddenly ran out of the bush, striking the victims’ motorcycle and killing them on the spot.
Eyewitnesses recounted the horrifying moment when the men, who were transporting a bag of cocoa from Ile-Oluji to Ondo town on a motorcycle, commonly known as a “Lady’s Bike,” were caught off guard by the sudden appearance of the cow. According to a report by Hope Newspaper, the cow’s unexpected dash onto the road led to a violent collision, claiming the lives of the riders instantly.
The herder, reportedly a Fulani man, fled into the bush with his remaining cattle immediately after the accident, leaving the victims behind. Shocked passersby were hesitant to intervene, fearing possible legal implications from the authorities.
As of the time of reporting, the identities of the deceased had not yet been confirmed.
Residents have continued to express concerns over the dangers posed by free-roaming livestock on major roads. This tragic event has reignited discussions on road safety and the need for stricter enforcement of livestock control laws in the country.
