Kuchibiyu Community in the Bwari Area Council of Abuja was thrown into mourning on Monday, January 6, 2025, following a suspected bomb explosion at an Islamiyyah school.
The tragic incident claimed the life of one student and left four others injured.
The explosion, which occurred around noon, shattered the calm of the rural community situated approximately 42 kilometers from Abuja city center. Emergency responders, including a police bomb disposal unit, promptly arrived at the scene, and the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased student was allegedly carrying an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) when it detonated. The identity of the student has not yet been confirmed, and authorities are still working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the device.
The blast triggered widespread panic among students, teachers, and residents. Despite repeated attempts, school officials declined to comment on the incident.
Similarly, efforts to obtain a statement from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command proved unsuccessful, as calls to the FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
The tragedy is especially poignant as it occurred just three days after students resumed classes on January 3.
The incident has left the community reeling, with parents and guardians expressing deep concern over the safety of their children in the area. Investigations are ongoing, and further updates are expected as more details emerge.
