Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the the president of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described kidnappers as destroyers of the future of a country and, therefore, should be made to face capital punishment.
Tinubu made this opinion while commenting on the latest kidnapping of over 200 students of the LEA Primary and Secondary School in Kuriga town of Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State in Nigeria around 8:20 am on Thursday, March 7, 2024.
Pleading for harsh penalties including capital punishment for individuals found guilty of kidnapping school children, Tinubu asserted that asserting that it is time to take a firm stand on kidnapping and other inhuman activities that have characterised Nigeria.
He described terrorists, kidnappers, and bandits as cruel, sick, cowards, animals, and evil that should be routed out of society, stressing that enough is enough regarding terrorist acts in Nigeria.
Her words, “Whosoever kidnapped young people is sick, cruel, and a coward. Enough is enough. I call on the state governors that once they take hold of them, they deserve capital punishment.”
She said, “… Why are they torturing our children? What they are doing is trying to kill our future. We all know parents. When we are old, we rely on our children and we see that our investments don’t go to waste especially when they are successful. Why will they go and take them from school? I don’t know. But right now, l think enough is enough. As a former lawmaker, l believe in capital punishment for these criminals. We carry them for nine months when you are giving birth, you don’t know whether you will live or die. They (kidnappers) are animals, they are evil, and they should take them out among us wherever they come from. The state government and lawmakers should do something.”
