A Nigerian Presidential aspirant and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu has stressed the relevance of the nation’s pioneer anthem, describing it as a true national anthem.
Tinubu made this known yesterday at the palace of Ataoja of Osogbo, His Royal Majesty, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Oyetunji, where he openly told the monarch that he is offering himself to be the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come 2023.
He said that the old national anthem aptly put the spirit of honest service for the nation in all Nigerians.
His words, “We have in our old national anthem, that though tribe and tongue may defer, in brotherhood we stand. It has come that we must be solid in that brotherhood. It has come that we must know that the same blood is flowing through our blood whether you are Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, whoever. The time has come for us to realise that we believe in the same God whether you are a Christian or Muslim. The time has come that we must have a good attitude for progress and prosperity. We must remember that that old national anthem has some sections in it that we want to serve, it is about service, honest service for our country, honest service for to bring progress to our people, honest service that bring us joy.
Tinubu pointed out “It is now, the period that Nigerian is looking for a solid hope, solid change for progress prosperity and progress. we need solid education.”
Earlier, Oba Oyetunji cautioned those who are campaigning against Tinubu on the basis of old age and unhealthy state, saying that Tinubu’s health is far better than President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, when the later contested and won the presidential seat of the nation.
Oba Oyetunji, who canvassed for vote for Tinubu frankly pointed out that he and the people of Osogbo have endosed the presidential ambition of Tinubu as well as the second term bid of Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
He called on the entire Yoruba race to support Tinubu, who is from them.
Nigeria’s first national anthem:
Nigeria we hail thee
Our own dear native land
Though tribes and tongue may differ
In brotherhood we stand
Nigerians all, are proud to serve
Our sovereign Motherland.
Our flag shall be a symbol
That truth and justice reign
In peace or battle honour’d,
And this we count as gain,
To hand on to our children
A banner without stain.
