A section of Bodija Market in Ibadan, capital of Oyo State today went up in flames resulting in the loss of goods worth several millions of naira.
The Director of Operations, Oyo State Fire Service, Ismail Adeleke noted that the service was contacted around 5am and promptly, men were dispatched to the scene of the incident.
Affirming that the fire had been put off, he said, “We received a call at 5:35am and we moved to the market and put out the fire immediately. There was no loss of life and nobody was injured in the incident. We were informed late. We did not receive any call from the people in the market. It was a policeman in Yemetu Area that called and we responded swiftly”.
One of the victims, Ganiyu Asimiyu aka Semere, selling beans, who lamented that the inferno started around 3am, lamented that he lost goods worth about three million naira.
All the victims called on the government to assist them in whatever way.
