A business woman, Janet Akanbi, who was on her way home around 6pm, along Olorunda-Aba in Ibadan, capital of Oyo State, narrowly escaped being killed as a fence on the road under construction fell on her car on Saturday, March 16, 2024.
The incident happened very close to Elewuro junction along Olorunda-Aba under Lagelu Local Government.
The road, which has been under construction for some months now still had some of the old fence constructed by the 2nd Mechanised Division, Odogbo Barracks, which has being detached, still standing.
According to Akanbi, she was making her way home as it was about to rain when she heard a loud bang on the roof of her car, a Nissan Primera with registration number Lagos LSD 572 CD.
The car was badly smashed and she narrowly escaped being crushed and was lucky that there were no other passengers in the car. She sustained some bruises and passerby had to help her out of the car.
Commenting on the incident, some residents of the area and commuters could not understand why the fence has not been pulled down as a new fence had been constructed to make way for the road under construction.
While Akanbi was thanking God for being alive, she lamented that she could not afford to repair the car which was badly damaged.
She called on the Oyo State Government and the construction firm, Samchase Nigeria Ltd, to come to her aid to repair the car. She also called on the construction firm to pull down the dilapidated fence to avert crisis for the other road users.
