The Assistant Business and Aviation Editor of The Nigerian Tribune newspaper, Shola Oluremi Adekola died at 61 on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Lagos University Teaching Hospital( LASUTH), Ikeja.
Late Adekola, a renowned journalist and expert in aviation reporting died after a brief illness.
According to the information gathered, Adekola, who was born to late Professor Morakinyo Omole and Mrs Funmilayo Omole, lived her youthful age in the prestigious University of Ibadan community.
Madam Sholly as she was popularly known in the newsroom and among her colleagues graduated from the Nigerian premier university, University of Ibadan (UI), in 1988 where she bagged Bachelor of Arts in Classical Studies domiciled in the institution’s oldest Faculty, Faculty of Arts.
She was an alumni of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, where she underwent different professional courses ranging from aviation reporting for image makers, advance training in aviation for image makers and management course for image makers between 1993 and 2023.
Apart from her educational background, she has also gathered international experiences as she has travelled across Europe, America, Middle East and Africa for conferences on aviation and tourism related issues.
Until her demise, the renowned journalist publishes her popular column ‘CRUCIAL MOMENT’ which grace the business page of Tribune every Thursday.
She joined the League of Airports and Aviation Correspondent (LAAC), in 1993 having been posted to the beat by the Kano State Government owned Newspaper, the Triumph.
Between the period and up till her passing, she had worked with different Newspapers: Hallmark, Daily Times, Reuters and the Nigerian Tribune, where she rose through the ranks of Proof Reader, Sub-Editor, Correspondent and until her death Assistant Editor/ aviation Editor in Nigerian Tribune.
For the period she has been a LAAC member, she has served in different positions including: Assistant Secretary, Secretary and Vice Chairman.
