Osun State Police Command on Thursday September 10, 2020 arraigned two fraudsters, Matthew Olaposi 25, and Babatunde Bayo, 24, at Ile-Ife Magistrate Court.
The accused allegedly arraigned for forging an international passport and belonging to a cult, are facing a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery, breach of peace and cultism.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.
According to the Prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi, the accused forged an international passport bearing Alhamed Ola Ruth to facilitate internet scam adding that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to breach peace in a public place by smoking a substance suspected to be hemp.
Accusing them to be members of a secret society called Aye confraternity, which they are using to disturb public peace, the prosecutor stated that the offences committed contravened Sections 62(A), 63(B), 249(d) and 467(1), (2) of the Criminal Law of Osun, 2002.
Following the plea of the Defence Counsel, Innocental Akhigbe, who sought for bail for her clients in most liberal terms and assured the court that they would not jump bail, Magistrate A.A. Ayeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 each with one surety each in like sum.
The sureties must swear to affidavit of means and reside within the court’s jurisdiction and the sureties must show evidence of three years tax payment to Osun Government.
She adjourned the case till November 11, 2020 for mention.
