There is tension in Uganda following the general election held on Thursday January 14, 2021, as security operatives, basically soldiers and policemen have started attacking the opposition.
The Presidential candidate of National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has alleged that President Yoweri Museveni, a presidential candidate of National Resistance Movement (NRM) is plotting to assassinate him.
Information filtering out of Uganda revealed that Bobi Wine today escaped assassination from the country’s security agents.
At a point, journalists and Bobi Well had to run for cover as a soldier pointed his machine gun at them.
Currently, it is three days now that the government of Uganda has imposed a total internet blackout on the country, as well as shutting down telecommunication system, thereby making it impossible for the opposition to use telephones for communication.
However, soldiers, policemen, those serving in the government as well as the loyalists of President Museveni were seeing using telephones.
It is gathered that policemen have been parading the country and mercilessly attacking innocent citizens as well as going into the houses of unarmed people to assault them.
People of Uganda are currently calling for the intervention of the international community including the African Union.
Speaking on the development, Bobi Wine said, “One of my gardeners came to inform me that we have been surrounded by soldiers. I asked them what they are doing inside my compound and why they are trespassing? They told me to take my questions to the spokesperson of the military. I know they are targeting my life. I know they are trying to normalise such actions so that when finally they do something terrible for me… Here is my guard”.
On the instruction of Bobi Wine, the guard narrated how the soldiers sneaked into the compound of Bobi.
He said, “They sneaked inside. All the gates were closed. I went to talk to them. They beat me up and they made me to roll on the grass”.
During the press conference Bobi Wine held in his house, he said, “Our lives are in danger. If anything happens to us, we have had the opportunity to expose everything that is being plotted on our lives”.
The country may be thrown into a civil war if something drastic is not done.
