The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of the University of Ibadan (UI), today re-elected Professor Ayoola Akinwole as its Chairman for a second term of office after a tension-soaked election.
Akinwole, who was a lone candidate and was expected to be returned unopposed, had a tough time winning the referendum to endorse him as a second-term chairman as he gathered 270 YES response against 161 NO response in the referendum.
It was gathered that some aggrieved members of the Union campaigned vigorously to make him lose the election as he was alleged of highhandedness and arrogance, insulting and lacking in decorum in addressing colleagues and other members of the society.
Also elected are Dr Seun Garuba of Microbiology who polled 270 votes to defeat Dr Olisah Muojama who polled 140 votes to emerge as Secretary of the Branch.
Dr Adams Akewula was returned as Financial Secretary while Dr Oyediran Oyebola was elected as Investment secretary.
Dr Adefemi Afolabi was elected Vice Chairman, and Dr Moses Adetona was elected Assistant Secretary of the Union.
The President of the Union, Emmanuel Osodeke was represented at the Biennial Congress where the results of the election was declared by the Ibadan Zonal Coordinator of the Union, Professor Oyebamiji Oyegoke.
The election was witnessed by leaders of the Union from UNILAG (Dr Dele Ashiru), UNILORIN (Moyosore Ajao), LAUTECH (Babatunde Lawal), LASU (Akinloye Oyewunmi), UNAAB (Gbenga Adeleye), KWASU (Dauda Adesola), OAU (Anthony Odiwe).
