There are strong indications that the process to elect the 13th Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI) has commenced.
The process which usually commence in either February or March has been delayed as a result of the on-going strike action embarked upon by The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and got complicated by the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The five year tenure of the siting Vice Chancellor, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka will officially expire on November 30th 2020 and a new VC is expected to resume December 1, 2020.
Sources close to the office of the Vice Chancellor revealed that series of meetings are being held toward having a hitch free election.
It was gathered that the institution will soon place advertisements in national dailies to seek for qualified individuals within and outside the Premier University to apply for the position of Vice Chancellor of the Premier University.
Major contenders known to Primestarnews are Deputy Vice Chancellor, Admin, Professor Kayode Oyebode Adebowale of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, former Dean, Faculty of Arts, Professor Remi Raji-Oyelade of the Department of English, former Deputy Vice Chancellor, Admin, Professor Adeyinka Abideen Aderinto and former Dean, Faculty of Law, Professor Oluyemisi Adefunke Bamgbose, SAN.
Others are Provost of College of Medicine, Professor Ezekiel Olapade-Olaopa, the immediate past Chief Medical Director (CMD), University College Hospital (UCH), Professor Temitope Alonge and Professor George Olusegun Ademowo of the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutic, Faculty of Basic Medical Science.
