Gbenro Adesina
Dr. Stephen Akinyemi Oluwatomiwa Lafenwa of the Department of Political Science, University of Ibadan, clocks 50 today, August 28, 2021.
He was born on August 28, 2021 into the family of Late Pa Emmanuel Akinwale Lafenwa and Mrs Abigail Olubisi Lafenwa of Bolude Compound including the Akinyele royal family. His father is from Olojuoro village in Oluyole local government and his mother is from Idiogun family in Lagelu local government.
Lafenwa attended St. Peter’s Primary School, Aremo in ibadan from 1977 – 1983 and Loyola College, Ibadan from 1983-1988. He was admitted to read Political Science, in the University of Ibadan in the 1990/91 session, He obtained a Master Degree and PhD in Political Science in 1998 and 2006 respectively from the same University.
He was awarded Federal Government Scholarship to pursue his doctoral degree in 2002, was a Legislative Fellow from 2000-2002, and a two time laureate of Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA).
Lafenwa started his teaching career at the University of Ibadan as Teaching Assistant and taught Political Science and Public Administration at Covenant University, Ota Nigeria for over two years before joining the Department of Political science as lecturer II in 2007.
A Political and Current Affairs Analyst, Lafenwa specializes in Public Administration as well as Legislative and Democratic Studies. He is the current Sub-Dean (Undergraduate) of the Faculty of the Social Sciences, University of Ibadan.
