On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, scholars and academics from within and outside Nigeria converged at the Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan (UI), for the commencement of the 1st Annual Ibadan International Social Science Conference (AIISSC) convened by institution’s Faculty of the Social Sciences.
The conference with the theme, “Social Science, Contemporary Social Issues and the Actualization of Sustainable Development” is aimed at proffering solutions to some of the myriad of problems being encountered in Nigeria, in particular and the world in general.
At the opening ceremony, the convener of the Conference, the Dean of the Faculty of the Social Sciences, University of Ibadan, Professor E.E. Nwokocha, noted the importance and timeliness of the conference as it is coming at a time when the country is facing severe economic hardship. According to him, over two hundred scholars have come together to dissect the countries problems with a view of coming up with recommendations to relevant authorities in solving these problems.
Giving his opening remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Professor K. O. Adebowale welcomed the gathering and lauded the Faculty for coming up with such an important conference.
Other activities at the opening ceremony include a Keynote Paper Presentation by Professor Lai Erinosho of the Social Science Academy of Nigeria, Lead Paper Presentation by Professor Augustine Okereke, Immediate Past Senior Vice President & Provost, Medger Evers College/City University of New York, USA, entertainment by the UI Cultural Troupe and the cutting of the conference cake.
The conference continued on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, with over 200 paper presentations.
