The Management of the University of Ibadan (UI) on Friday November 6, 2020, has announced that the 2020 convocation ceremony would hold between Friday 13 and Tuesday 17 November , 2020.
The 72nd Foundation Day Celebration and the Award of Doctorate/Honourary Degrees are scheduled to hold on November 17, 2020.
According to the information obtained from the website of the Premier University, Emeritus Professor Kalu Mosto Onuoha would deliver the convocation lecture on Monday November 16, 2020.
Professor Onuoha is the President Nigerian Academy of Science and former Shell Chair of Geophysics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka
The title of this year’s convocation lecture is “Nigeria @ 60: Challenges and Opportunities for Moving from an Oil and Gas Sustainable Knowledge-based Economy.
This year’s Convocation and Foundation Day ceremonies are coming amidst the protracted strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which has been on since March 2020.
The 2020 Convocation ceremony is the last to be presided over by the outgoing Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, whose tenure comes to a close on November 30, 2020.
Professor Olayinka is expected to proceed on leave as soon as he leaves the office at the end of the month for at least a year.
