The Appointment and Promotion Committee for Academic Staff of the University of Ibadan (UI), has promoted Dr Adedoyin Adenike Aguoru, of the Department of English to the rank of full professor.
According to a reliable source, Aguoru’s promotion was approved and immediately announced during the committee’s meeting today.
“It happened this morning. The A & P is currently in session. The committee has reviewed and approved Doyin’s promotion and the announcement was made at the meeting”, the source told PrimeStar.

Born on September 21, 1973, Aguoru attended the University of Ilorin between 1991 and 1995, where she earned a B.A. (Ed) in English. She later obtained a Master’s in International Relations (M.I.R) from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, between 1997 and 2007. She furthered her studies at Nigeria’s premier institution, the University of Ibadan, earning an M.A. in Literature in English (1998–2001) and a Ph.D. in Literature (2002–2011).
Aguoru has a strong passion for Japanese Studies and currently serves as the President of the Society for Japanese Studies in Africa (SJSA). She is also a member of the Association for Japanese Literary Studies (AJLS) and the European Association for Japanese Studies (EAJS). Additionally, she holds memberships in the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), the Nigerian Society of International Affairs (NSIA), and the English Scholars Association of Nigeria (ESAN).
She began her teaching career as a Graduate Assistant in Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), in 1997 and rose to the rank of Lecturer I in 2007, a position she held until 2013 before joining the University of Ibadan the same year in the same capacity. With this promotion, she has now attained the prestigious rank of full professor.
Beyond teaching the three major literary genres: drama, poetry, and prose, Aguoru has made significant contributions to Gender and Japanese Studies.
Celebrating her achievement, one of her doctoral students, Kofoworola Omokoba, expressed admiration in a social media post:
“Congratulations to the amiable, zealous, intelligent, bold, and tenacious Professor Doyin Aguoru. It’s not every day we witness exceptionally brilliant and accomplished women attain this feat. This is a remarkable achievement! The Department of English, University of Ibadan, is privileged to have you as a professor. We, your protégés, are proud to be associated with you. Congratulations on this long-deserved promotion, Mummy!”
Aguoru’s promotion is seen as a well-earned recognition of her dedication and contributions to academia.
