The students of the University of Ibadan (UI) have embarked on a protest to show their displeasure over the management decision to supply 10-hour electricity daily on campus with effect from Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
The students, who closed the major entrance gates into the school are not comfortable with the mode of distributing the electricity, saying that the bulk of supply would be made when they were in lectures not when they need it in their residential halls.
The students blocked the major roads on campus making vehicular movement impossible. It was gathered that the protest started yesterday night and lasted till 2am today.
The decision of the school authority regarding the supply of electricity on campus was contained in a memo issued by the department of works and maintenance of the institution.
The memo, dated July 16, 2024, was signed by the Director of Works, Engineer O.A. Adetolu.
