The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, University of Ibadan (UI), Nde Joshua Mutka Waklek, has suspended the selection process of the 13th Vice Chancellor pending consultations.
This is coming on the heels of protest that rock the institution today by non-academic staff over what they called imposition of a candidate on the Premier University.
While protesting, the non-academic staff demanded that the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Admin), Professor Kayode Adebowale, be disqualified from participating in the final process.
The reason for calling for his disqualification was not stated apart from the assumption that he is a beloved staff of his boss, the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka.
There has been series of conspiracy theories concerning the development as it is stated that the protest was sponsored by one of the contesters, who feels that he does not have a chance to emerge.
As at the time of filing this report, PrimeStarNews gathered that the governing council is holding a meeting to resolve the crisis.
