The Senate of the University of Ibadan (UI), today approved that institution will be reopened on January 18, 2021 to conclude the 2018/2019 session, which was ongoing before the commencement of the strike action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in March 2020.
According to information gathered, the staff of the University are expected to use a week to process results of the concluded second semester examination and other activities relating to the results will be conducted before the 2018/2019 session formally ends on February 19, 2021.
A new session will commence on February 22, 2021.
It was also gathered that the University has cancelled the 2019/2020 session, which means that the new session to commence on February 22 will be the 2020/2021 session, which is to be a virtual one.
This is not the first time UI will be cancelling an academic session. The Institution previously cancelled the1994/1995, 1999/2000, and 2006/2007academic sessions for various reasons.
With the cancellation of the 2019/2020 session, candidates who wrote JAMB in 2019 are to resume in 100 level in February 2021 for the 2020/2021 session. Those who wrote JAMB in 2020 are to be invited for Post UTME in March 2021. They will come in by January 2022 for the 2021/2022 session to start their University education.
