The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka has mourned a foremost Nigerian Medical Icon, Professor Oladipo Olujimi Akinkugbe, who died today.
Olayinka, stated that the professor of medicine would be missed by the entire university, particularly, the scholars that knew him as a great scholar and an unrivaled supporter of his Alma Mata, the Premier University.
He urged the members of the University community to remember the deceased’s widow, children and the entire Akinkugbe Family in their prayers for the good Lord to grant them the fortitude to bear the great loss.
He said, “With gratitude to God for a life well-spent in a selfless service to humanity, we regret to announce the transition to eternity of one of the earliest sets of students at the University College Ibadan, Emeritus Professor Oladipo Akinkugbe. The sad event took place today, Monday 15th June 2020”.
A recipient of Honorary Doctor of Science from Ibadan (2006) and Honorary Fellowship of UI (1998), he served as Dean of Medicine from 1970 till 1974. He was appointed Emeritus Professor of Medicine in 1995″, he added.
