Ahead of the November 2023 celebration of the 75th anniversary of the University of Ibadan (UI), tagged “UI@75”, the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale today inaugurated a high-level committee to plan, coordinate and execute various activities to mark the milestone event.
Heading the Committee designated as the Chairman/Convener is the former Dean of Faculty of The Social Sciences, Professor Olamakinde Olapegba.
Olapegba is also a current member of the institution’s Governing Council and the Director of the University Alumni Office.
According to a statement obtained from the institution’s Directorate of Communication, Adebowale noted that because of the special nature of the event, the committee was inaugurated early to give it enough time to prepare for the events to celebrate the anniversary billed to come up later in the year.
Adebowale, who highlighted the responsibilities of the committee to include fundraising, expressed his confidence in the committee, noting that the members are people of adequate experience that would add value to the given task and charged them to start in earnest.
The Vice-Chancellor charged the Committee to fully engage the alumni community of the nation’s Premier University and ensure that a befitting 75th anniversary is put together for the University.
In his short remarks, Olapegba who thanked the University management for the confidence reposed in him promised to put his best in discharging the enormous task ahead.
