The 13th matriculation ceremony of the Osun State University, Oshogbo for the 2019/2020 session was held online on Wednesday May 13 2020.
According to a notice sent to the students, and signed by the Institution’s Registrar, G. A. A. Shittu, the online matriculation ceremony was necessitated by the current coronavirus pandemic.
The statement said, “There is the need to officially admit fresh students into the University as a way of tradition. However, in view of the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic which would not allow such a gathering at a period like this, the university has resolved to conduct an online matriculation for the students”.
At the ceremony, the institution matriculated 3,338 new students for the new academic session.
This comprise of 76 students in the College of Agriculture; 186 in the College of Education; 454 in the College of Health Sciences; 588 in the College of Science, Engineering and Technology; 442 in the College of Management and Social Sciences; 391 in the College of Humanities and Culture and 87 students in the College of Law.
The oath of Matriculation was administered by the University Registrar, after which students were informed to scan and send a signed copy of the matriculation oath form that they have received in their mails back to the University with their official University email addresses for proper documentation.
Addressing the new students, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola congratulated the students for being among the selected student out of the 7757 applications received for the 2019/2020 academic session.
He said, “I urge you all to be law-abiding, align with the vision of the University, committed to learning, and stay clear of cultism and any other social vices so as to be successful as a student of this University.
“We like to place it on record that in spite of the impacts of the global pandemic, we at Uniosun are resolved to focus on our pursuit of excellence in teaching, research and service to society as enshrined in our vision and what we have done today is to set the pace for other tertiary institutions in Nigeria”.
