The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has extended its two week warning strike by four weeks.
The Union bemoaned the failure of the Federal Government to address their grievances, which led to a declaration of two week warning strike that expired last Monday April 4, 2022.
The decision of the Union to extend the strike action was taken at its 49th regular meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Association, held on Thursday March 31, 2022 at Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, Niger State.
According to a letter addressed to all the Union’s branch Chairmen, dated Friday April 1, 2022 and titled, “Extension of Warning Strike by Four (4) Weeks”, the Union stated, “NEC in-session extensively reviewed the situations on the two (2) weeks warning strike and expressed serious concern on the inability of the federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) to address the issues in contention and her lack of commitment to resolving all issues through meaningful dialogue with the union, for a way forward.”
The letter signed by the Union General Secretary, Comrade Engr. Abubakar V. Yusuf, stated further, “The invitation of NAAT to a renegotiation meeting of the FGN/NAAT 2009 Agreement on Monday 21st March, 2022 was a ploy to stop the two weeks warning strike.”
It directed, “Consequently, upon the above, therefore, NEC unanimously resolved to extend the two weeks warning strike by four weeks from 12.00 midnight of Monday 4th April, 2022. This has become necessary to allow government more time to holistically address NAAT demands.”
“Branch chairmen are hereby directed to bring this to the notice of the university authorities and to call for emergency congress for members’ information to proceed on a four (4) week extension of the warning strike. Branches are ensure total compliance”, the letter concluded.
