The University of Ibadan (UI) has announced an increase in the monthly allowance for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving within the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Kayode Adebowale, approved an upward review of the stipend from N10,000 to N20,000, with effect from March 2025.
According to a statement from the university administration signed by the school Registrar/Secretary to Senate, G. O. Saliu, the decision was made after a thorough evaluation of the country’s economic situation, including the rising cost of living, transportation expenses, and the general price surge of essential commodities.
The university noted that corps members face financial difficulties due to these economic realities and believes the increment will serve as a motivation for them to perform their duties with greater dedication.
The directive instructs relevant units within the institution to begin implementing the revised allowance from March 2025.
This development comes as a relief to corps members, many of whom have struggled with financial constraints due to inflation and increased living costs.
The move aligns with the university’s commitment to fostering a conducive working environment for all personnel, including youth corps members.
