A Popular Nollywood actor, Dejumo Lewis, who was famous for the Kabiyesi role in The Village Headmaster, Nigeria’s longest-running television soap opera shown on NTA from 1968 to 1988 has been reportedly dead at 80.
Lewis’ junior colleague, Said Balogun, confirmed his death in a post shared on his Instagram account on Saturday, December 23, 2023.
Sharing the photo of the late veteran, Said wrote, “Good night DEJUMO LEWIS, may your soul rest in perfect peace. RIP.”
Lewis, an actor, producer, director, dramatist, filmmaker and communication consultant, who hailed from Ekiti State was born on July 28, 1943.
His grandfather settled in Lagos from Erijiyan Ekiti in 1875. He married a white Sierra Leonean. His father, Edward Ademola Lewis, was the first son in the family. His mother, who was a core Lagosian, was born into the Suarez family. She was called Lawrencia Alaba Lewis. His grandfather built an estate in Lagos Island.
Dejumo Lewis attended the Holy Cross Primary School on the Lagos Island and St Theresa’s Catholic Minor Seminary in Ibadan. He later attended St. Peter & Paul Catholic, also in Ibadan where he graduated in Philosophy and Theology. He then went for Master’s degree at the University of Ibadan to study Communication Arts.
One of the deceased’s children, Dr Demola Lewis is a lecturer in the Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan (UI).
