94 out of 150 Nigerian girls stranded in Lebanon, including the 30 girls in a viral video calling for government assistance to return back to Nigeria, have arrived in the country today August 12, 2020.
They arrived aboard a Middle East Airline plane at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos around 4pm and were ushered into the arrival hall after observing Airport formalities.
The returnees could not hide their excitement which they demonstrated with dances and shouts of joy.
They were welcomed on arrival by the Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, joined by the Senior Special Assistant to Oyo State Government on Diaspora, Mrs. Bolanle Sarumi-Aliyu, with representatives of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
The Commission stated that all the evacuees have proceeded on 14 days self-isolation as mandated by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Ministry of Health and Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.
The elated NIDCOM boss posted on Twitter, “A big thank you to the Lebaneese Amb to Nigeria, the Nigerian Mission in Lebanon, the Lebaneese Community in Nigeria for making this possible Nema is handling their logistics . More returning soon”.
