A fire outbreak in the early hours of Wednesday threw motorists and traders into panic at the Apongbon market in Lagos.
Many shops which were majorly constructed with planks were destroyed in the fire.
Vehicles parked under the bridge were also razed by the inferno which enveloped a large section of the bridge.
The fire outbreak led to a gridlock on the Eko and Carter Bridge.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) announced via a tweet that the fire outbreak has resulted in the slow movement of motorists and advised that they use alternative routes.
“Motorists who are yet to connect Eko Bridge are advised to use alternative routes such as Third-Mainland Bridge and Carter Bridge.
“Emergency Responding Agencies like Fire Service, LASEMA, LASTMA are all on ground.”
The emergency workers have also urged traders trying to salvage their goods from under the bridge to leave for their safety.
In another development, it was gathered that robbers seized the opportunity of the gridlock in the area to disposes motorists and passerby of their valuables.
