The planned evacuation of Nigerians abroad by the Nigerian Government has commenced with the first batch of 256 returnees from Dubai this evening.
The evacuees were meant to arrive Lagos at 3pm today but one of them, Mrs Kafayat Amusan, fell into labor 30 mins after take off and the plane had to return to Dubai.
She was delivered of a baby boy on board Emirates airline and is currently on admission at a Hospital in Dubai.
Emirates Airline had to change to another aircraft which eventually brought the returnees at 7pm today.
The Chairman/CEO Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa stated that the mother and the baby are in good condition, said Mrs Amusan will return to Nigeria after obtaining a birth certificate and other necessary travel documents for her baby boy.
According to the Commission, all the 256 returnees tested negative for Covid-19 before boarding from Dubai and will be proceeding to a location for compulsory isolation.
