The Managing Director of Lekki Concession Company, Abayomi Omamuwasan, today November 3, 2020, told the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality that the surveillance camera at the Lekki toll plaza stopped recording at about 8pm when gunshots were fired at the #EndSARS protesters.
He stated this while tendering a video footage recorded by its surveillance camera on the night of Tuesday October 20, 2020, when men of the Nigerian Army allegedly opened fire on #ENDSARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate while they were waving Nigerian flags and singing the Nigerian National Anthem.
Omamuwasan informed the panel that the CCTV camera stopped recording due to the vandalism of some equipment and fire outbreak at the toll gate.
The Judicial Panel of Inquiry set was up by the Lagos State Government to probe the Lekki shootings, as well as complaints of human rights abuses against members of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
