Iniobong Umoren, the young girl who reportedly went for a job interview on Thursday, April 29, 2021, at an undisclosed location on Airport Road in the outskirts of Uyo, has been murdered and buried in a shallow grave by her abductor.
Umoren had announced on Twitter on April 27 that she was in need of a job.
“#AkwaIbomTwitter please I’m really in need of a job, something to do to keep mind and soul together while contributing dutifully to the organisation. My location is Uyo, I’m creative, really good in thinking critically and most importantly a fast learner. CV available on request.”
Umoren was reported missing on Twitter by Twitter user @UmohUduak1, who had initiated the search for her missing friend on April 29. About two hours after leaving for the venue of the interview, she reportedly made a frantic phone call where she was heard screaming before the call was abruptly ended. Her phone line has been switched off ever since.
However, on Sunday morning, @umohuduak1 uploaded a video of her in tears, and a following tweet confirming the death of her friend.
“The killed my friend and they buried my friend,” she tweeted.
When the news of Umoren’s disapperance surfaced on Twitter, Nigerians on social media provided evidence, locations, contacts and almost everything needed to unmask her kidnapper with the hope that the intelligence provided will help in finding the missing lady and bring her abductor to justice.
Unconfirm report stated that a suspect, Uduak Frank Akpan, allegedly took the late Umoren to his house where an argument ensured and in the process, he used an object to hit her on the head resulting in her death. He was alleged to have hurriedly buried her in a shallow grave and ran to Oron to hide.
Following pressure by the Police and Nigerians on social media, Oron became uncomfortable for him and he ran back to Uruan. The Chairman of Uruan LGA, Surv. Iniobong Ekpeyong was said to have met the accused cousin and asked him to bring the accused to him.
When he was taken before the Chairman, he was asked to be truthful about what actually transpired. It was there he confessed to his Local Government Chairman that he actually killed and buried her in a shallow grave. A shocked Surv Ekpeyong had no choice but to call the DPO of Uruan LGA and handed over the suspect to the Police for further investigation and prosecution.
The suspect, Uduak Akpan, and Emmanuel Emem-Obong, who is suspected to be his accomplice have been arrested by the police.
Reacting to the sad development, former Senate President, Olubukola Saraki wrote on Twitter:
“I’ve been following the #FindHinyHumoren hashtag closely over the past couple of days and I am extremely devastated that young Miss Iniobong Umoren, who simply set out to find a job, was raped and murdered.
“At this particularly difficult time, my prayers are with her family and all her friends who kept this topic on the front burner over the last couple of days. I hope the perpetrators of this despicable act are swiftly tried and sentenced.”
