The Burial ceremony of Timothy Adegoke, 37, who was murdered at Hilton Hotel, Ile-Ife, in November 2021, owned by an Ile-Ife Prince, Rahmon Adegoke Adedoyin, was characterised by wailing, weeping, shouting, curses and prayers, as his remains was lowered to the grave at Eruwa town in Oyo State.
Almost every one, who attended the funeral could not hold back hot tears, as a woman was begging that her brother should not be buried until she was granted the privilege to see the remains again. “Adedoyin killed my brother for me. Please don’t bury my brother. I want to see her. Let me see him before you bury him “, she was shouting.
The wife, children, brother, sister, master of ceremony and others could not hold themselves as they intermittently broke down and wept profusely.
At a point, the wife resulted in speaking to herself, regretting that she would not see her husband again. “My husband told me that he was coming back. He drove out but said he would come back. Where is my husband? They will not allow me to see him again. Where is my husband”, these were some of the things she was saying, while it took many people to hold her tight to her seat.
The wife after performing dust to dust rite, refused to leave the graveside until she was dragged away. She was begging those who were dragging her away to allow her to say goodbye to her husband.
The Council of Eruwa’s Elders, who described the death of Timothy as a colossal loss invoked all the gods of the land to revenge the death of Timothy.
The clergyman who sermonised at the occasion called on the people of Eruwa and the government of Oyo State to ensure that the wife and three children the deceased left behind are well taken care of, stressing that they must not be allowed to suffer.
At the funeral were Speaker Debo Ogundoyin of the Oyo State House of Assembly, representatives of Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN), Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) and others associations.
