The Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Kemerbrandikumo Pondei, has led a walk out on the House of Representatives Committee on Niger Delta investigating alleged financial malpractice and other activities of the Commission.
Pondei, who appeared with other management staff of the commission, refused to make presentation before the Committee presided by the Chairman, Olubumi Tunji-ojo, whom he said was an interested party in allegations of financial malpractice against the Commission.
Despite interventions by members of the Committee that issues raised were personal and there was no petition or any document before the House accusing the Committee’s Chairman, the acting Managing Director led other members of the Commission out of the probe venue.
Reacting to this, members of the Committee, who described the action of the NDDC Management as contempt of the parliament, issued warrant of arrest on the team while members passed vote of confidence on the Committee’s Chairman, Tunji-ojo.
Earlier today, the former managing director of the NDDC, Joy Nunieh, who was to have appeared before the Committee, had her home in Port Harcourt surrounded by armed police officers, which prevented her from making the trip to Abuja to appear before the lawmakers.
Nunieh was, however, rescued from the Police by the Governor of Rivers State, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike.
