Nigerians, particularly women have kicked against the choice of a Nigerian crossdresser personality, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, known as Bobrisky as the Best Dressed female at the Lagos Premiere of Ajanaku: Beast of Two Worlds.
The event took place at the Circle Mall, Lekki, Lagos on Sunday, March 25, 2024.
In attendance were Nollywood actors and actresses like Odunlade Adekola, Sola Sobowale, Toyin Abraham, Mercy Aigbe, and Femi Adebayo.
The award earned Bobrisky N1 Million.
Many Nigerians called on the government at all levels to insert a section into the nation’s constitution where stiff punishment would be spelt out for anyone engaging in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ), adding Bobrisky is getting away with his immorality because there is no constitutional provision in Nigerian constitution against LGBTQ which contravene African culture.
Speaking on the development, a Nigerian woman, identified as Elizabeth, on her X handle called out Nollywood Actor, Femi Adebayo, for naming Bobrisky Best Dressed Female and gave Femi Adebayo 24 hours to tender a public apology to Nigerian women and Nigerians generally for announcing a “man” as a winner of an award meant for women.
Speaking on X in Yoruba, Elizabeth called on Femi Adebayo’s parents to warned him against social ills asking them to ask Femi to tender a public apology for announcing Bobrisky as a winner of an award meant for women.
She said, “O gbe microphone, o n announce a transdresser pe oun lo best dressed larin awon obinrin. Femi Adebayo, se fame naa lo ko si e lori to beyen. Eyin judge wo lo da iru ejo beyen? Eyin judge wo le rubbish gbogbo awon obinrin ti o wa ni ibeyen? Bobrisky, okunrin ni e o ki n se obinrin. E wa fi olopa gbemi. Ki e kuku pass e into law pe ki obinrin ma do obinrin, ki okunrin ma do okunrin. Femi Adebayo, o ni iya, o ni aburo obinrin, o bi obinrin, o fe iyawo obinrin sile, o wa rubbish awa obinrin beyen. Tiwon ba wa yin oju koyin, e o ni won yinju koyin. Ti e ba wa bere si ni lala kala loju orun, e wa ni e n la ala kala loju orun. Se e ro pe tiata yin, ibi ti o mo niyen laye ni. En disgrace gender wa. Femi Adebayo, ti o ba bo sita witin 24 hours ko be gbogbo obinrin agbaye, eyin obi Femi Adebayo e so fun, ti o ba bo sita be gbogbo obinrin, ko take serious apology gan an. Femi Adebayo, emi binu si e gidi. Emi OObale Elizabeth binu si e gidi. Ki e wa fi olopa mumi. Iwo naa le gba microphone ki o announce iru eyan beyen pe oun ni o win gbogbo obinrin to wa nibe. Se Bobrisky wa je obinrin ni? Is Bobrisky a female? Iwo Bobrisky, a ma ja e si ihoho.”
The above quote is interpreted thus, “Femi Adebayo announced on microphone that a crossdresser got a Best Dressed Female Award. Who are the members of the panel who came up with such a decision? The judges rubbished the women who attended the event. Bobrisky is a man. Femi Adebayo, you have a mother, younger sisters, wife, and daughters who are all females. Maybe you people should pass it into law that males should start sleeping with males and females should start sleeping with females. By giving that award to Bobrisky, you have rubbished all the women who attended that event. You will now say that you are being attacked. Why are you disgracing our gender? Femi, I am angry with you. I give you 24 hours to tender a public apology. How can you announce such a person as a woman, the person that you know is a man? One day, we women will strip Bobrisky named in the public.”
In the same direction, Solomon Buchi noted that Bobrisky has been getting away with his crime because notable politicians and people in government are his supporters.
He said, “Who is Bobrisky’s political godfather in Nigeria? Why is the Nigerian government a puppet to Bobrisky? Bobrisky must have friends in high places in Nigeria. Probably in the police, judiciary, and random politicians, because his confidence to say and do certain things publicly shows that he’s got political assurance. Who is Bobrisky political godfather in Nigeria? Why is the Nigerian government a puppet to Bobrisky? If Bobrisky were a poor man, shim would have been prosecuted a long time ago. Who’s covering Bobrisky?
A man identified as Emeka satirically condemned the leaders of Nigeria for tolerating people like Bobrisky.
He said, “Welcome to Nigeria where a man wins the best woman award yet was not invited by the police for questioning. Are you surprised that a country that has jail terms for guy/lesb/TransG is celebrating Bobrisky? Welcome to Nigeria, the African biggest puppet of the West.”
A notable Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola popularly known as Portable or Dr Zeh condemned Bobrisky for collecting an award meant for women.
Portable said, “Bobrisky is a man. You use money to make yourself a woman and you now go and collect an award meant for women. Are you a woman? I am a man and I am proud of myself. Man who turned himself to a woman and go and collect woman’s award.”
However, a man identified as Maj advised Nigerians not to watch “Ajanaku: Beast of Two Worlds” until the Nollywood actors/actresses behind it tender apology for the award given to Bobrisky.
He says, “Now if I say everyone should boycott the so-called movie, titled ‘Beast of Two Worlds’ until they apologize for this disrespect, you people will say I am hating. How can Bobrisky (a man) be given the award for ‘best dressed female’ for heaven’s sake?
In his reaction, Timi Agbaje holds that Bobrisky has not committed a crime in Nigeria because no section of the Nigerian constitution prohibits crossdresser and LGBTQ.
In his video clip on X, he said, “What does the law say/ As of today, March 24, 2024, is cross-dressing a crime in Nigeria? No. Section 36 into 12, 1999 constitution says nobody shall be arrested or charged to court for an offence that is not punishable by law in Nigeria. So as you are asking people to arrest Bob, ask yourself, what crime has he committed/ Cyberstalking, that is when you, that is when you post somebody’s pornography picture or video on the internet in Nigeria, N7 Million fine, or two portions of rice for three years, cyberbully, you dey use the internet to bully person online in Nigeria it is N25 million fine or ten years imprisonment, you now damaged somebody’s reputation, that means you posted information or news that you have not confirmed or you are sure it is true before you posted it, five years imprisonment or 15 million fine, damage reputation, one-year imprisonment. Before you post, confirm or else, two portions of rice. Before you come online and accuse anybody of anything, please have evidence.
