Commercial motorcyclists also known as Okada riders on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 clashed with the Police and operatives of the Lagos Task Force, who were enforcing the state’s Okada ban clashed around LUTH/Idi Araba area of Lagos State.
It was gathered that the motorcyclist are revolting against the Okada ban by the Lagos State Government, which came into force on June 1, 2022.
The Okada riders who went rampage vandalised vehicles in the area.
Sporadic gunshots could be heard in the area and tear gas were freely used by the police.
However, reacting to the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, claimed that the area is safe.
He said, “Idi-Araba is safe. Nothing to worry about. Just some lawless motorcycle operators trying to cause trouble after their motorcycles were impounded.
“Our men are fully on the ground. Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alabi personally coordinating our response.
“They can’t fight because Taskforce went well prepared.
“They were just causing a scene after the task force left with some of their impounded motorcycles. Rapid Response Squad and men from the Area Command have since been drafted there. Absolutely nothing to worry about.”
