Youths in Osogbo in Osun State have taken to the streets to protest the killing of a 27 year old man, Afolabi Abiola, who was arrested by the police at Capital Area, Osogbo over alleged involvement in a robbery case reported in Halleluyah estate.
It was gathered that Abiola was visiting his friend, Matthew, who was a phone repairer on Sunday but decided to sleep over at his residence at Capital, Zone 10 Area, Osogbo.
The two were arrested at midnight after the police invaded the residence without a search warrant. Matthew’s girlfriend who was also there was arrested.
It was gathered that while conducting their search, a police officer shot Abiola and he was later taken to an undisclosed hospital by the police.
Although Matthew’s girlfriend was released on Monday, Matthew was detained in police custody.
However, a twitter user “@InsideOsogbo” reported earlier today about the death of Abiola. This forced the police to release a statement below:
The demonstrating youths are protesting the unceasing police brutality they face from the Nigerian Police Force, demanding the removal of the state Police Commissioner, Wale Olokode.
