As Nigeria marks its 64 Independence Anniversary, Nigerians across the state of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, have trooped out en masse to peacefully protest the ruling class’s bad governance, which has resulted in hyperinflation.
The protest is tagged, “We are hungry #protest started from Eagle Square in Abuja with the protesters being seen marching peacefully and chanting.
In Lagos, the protesters are chanting Tinubu ‘Tinubu Ole’ as they march to Ojoto.
One of the protesters claimed that Nigeria is not moving as a progressive nation will do. He says, “We are saying that we are 64 in a 20-year-old body. Therefore, we are not moving as much as we should. What are we progressing? We still have potholes in Nigeria, in Lagos Megacity; we still have communities, in a giant country that are managing four hours of electricity per day. We are not moving at all. When the wicked rule, the people mourn. They are celebrating in Abuja because they have everything for free but Nigerian masses are not celebrating.”
Some of the protesters carried placards with different inscriptions like, “Tinubu’s Economic reform is a scam”, “Profit soars, people suffer capitalist system”, “This suffering is too much”, “Hunger is too much”, “Join the movement to fight for better Nigeria”, “Reverse fuel price to pre-May 29, 2023 price’, “Palliative is a scam”, “Revolution now or never”, and “Reverse electricity tariff now”.
However, at the time of filing this report, police have been making frantic efforts to disperse the protesters by attacking and firing tear gas at protesters.
One of the protesters said, “Police have started attacking protesters already in Abuja Peaceful #Protest is a fundamental human right. Let these people exercise their rights!”
Also, the protesters claimed that police are currently arresting protesters in Lagos saying that as of the time of filing this report, 12 protesters are incarcerated in Panti Police Station.
