A torrential rain that lasted about three houses yesterday June 30, 2020, caused flooding and havoc in Ibadan, capital of Oyo State, leaving many homeless and property destroyed.
Some of the affected areas include, Agodi Bustop/Gate, Olodo, Iyana Church, old Ife Road, Ijokodo, Gbekuba, Agbowo, Elewure, Akala Expressway, .
Some houses and cars were submerged in some of the areas, including Old Ife Road/Sawmill.
Roads in a large portion of the city were practically impassable and many car owners had to abandon their cars by the roadside.
There was traffic gridlock, especially as some cars either broke down on the road or were abandoned by their owners to find shelter.
Several motorists had to look for alternative routes to get to their destinations.
Some residents and shop owners had a hard time bailing out water from the affected buildings.
Several fences of houses in affected areas also collapsed under the torrential rainfall.
People living in close proximity to rivers and water courses were badly hit by the flood, as some people were reportedly trapped in some affected buildings.
As at the time of filing this report, Ibadan residents are busy counting their losses, calling on the state government to come to their aid.
