In what looks like a scripted drama, the staff of Osun State University could not hide their joy as they celebrated the expiration of the five-year tenure of the Institution’s Vice Chancellor (VC), Professor Labode Popoola.
The outgoing VC, , whose tenure ended on November 4, 2021, has been having a running battle with some of the staff over a number of issues.
In some video clips making the rounds on the internet, the members of staff were seen jubilating and frying akara and also sweeping the administrative building.
A large banner which had the picture of the outgoing VC was displayed in front of the Peter Okebukola Administrative Building, which read in part:
“With gratitude to God
The entire Staff of Osun State University
Staff Celebrates the Inglorious exit of a mischievous tyrant
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Labode Poppola
He will be remembered for lies, mischiefs, arrogance, divide and rule, power drunkenness, corruption… among others
Osun State University is free at last. Glory be to God”.
Meanwhile, the Management Council of the Institution, on Wednesday, appointed Professor Adefemi Afeez Bello as Acting Vice-Chancellor, effective from November 5, 2021.
The acting VC, a Professor of Geotechnical Engineering, was appointed after a council meeting on Tuesday, 2nd of November.
