A Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo popularly called Sunday Igboho, has apologised to Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, whom he insulted and called an animal and a mad man.
Igboho, in a video clip on twitter expressed disappointment over his claim that Oba Ogunwusi could not frankly tell President Muhammadu Buhari the truth about the excesses of the Fulani in Nigeria, particularly in the South West.
He claimed that Ogunwusi was not bold enough to be honest with the presidency because the president has bribed him with huge dollars, the money he claimed should have been given to Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi 111.
Igbhoho, who spoke in Yoruba said, “That man, Ooni of Ife is an animal. He has gone crazy. I actually wanted to do a video to blast him but some people asked me not to do it. The dollars that Muhammadu Buhari gave to him should have been given to Alaafin of Oyo. Alaafin supported me. He wrote a letter to Buhari to say that nothing should happen to me and that all the monarchs in Yoruba land support what I am doing. Ooni should have told Buhari the truth. He should have told Buhari that this is what my people want. When Ooni returned home from Abuja, he was saying nonsense. He said Igboho has tried and he should now leave the rest for the security operatives”.
“Can you see that Ooni has gone mad. People should tell him the truth. Ooni called me and asked him to see him in Ile Ife but I did not answer him. If Ooni has done what pleases me, I would have honoured his invitation. Any king that does not cooperate with me, if he calls me, I will not answer. That Ooni is with the politicians like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu”, he concluded.
But within a few hours, he took to Twitter again to justify why he was rude to the foremost monarch.
He said, “All that I am doing, I am doing it for the Yoruba people. Our fathers must know that they have a courageous king. Fulani must know that the Yoruba are courageous and that we are not cowards. I want you to know that there are many courageous people, who are stronger than I in Yorubaland. They are in Lagos, Osun and even in Ibadan”.
He called, “We should not create an avenue where we will be fighting ourselves. Let us cooperate to fight for freedom from the Fulani. We should not discourage those who are advancing the causes of Yoruba. We need to know that we must live a good legacy for our children. There is no job and security on the road. The Fulani are everywhere on the highways kidnapping the poor, raping, killing and collecting ransom. War against these crimes must be fought and won”.
He concluded, “And for the Ooni, I have spoken with him. We have discussed on phone. Olugbon and Ooni can confirm this. I did not collect a penny from any monarch. I apologise to Ooni for what I said earlier to him. I cannot abuse him. It is only uncultured son in Yoruba land that will abuse his father”.
However, Femi Fani-Kayode, the former Minister of Aviation, has pleaded with Oba Ogunwusi, to forgive Sunday Igboho, stressing that Igboho said all the unprintable words to Ooni in the heat of the moment.
Fani-Kayode said, “He expressed his regrets and I was relieved to hear that. To err is human and to forgive is divine. I appeal to Kabiyesi to forgive him. For the record, let me state clearly and categorically that no Ooni of Ife, whether living or dead, has ever been a slave of the Fulani and neither will they ever be”.
