The general elections held on Thursday January 14, 2020, in Uganda, to elect the President and the Parliamentarians have been reported to have been marred with violence and desperation to rig it in favour of the incumbent president.
The major presidential candidates in the election are 76 years old incumbent President, Yoweri Museveni of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who has been ruling the country since 1986 and 38 years old Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine of National Unity Platform (NUP).
However, fillers from Uganda have revealed that Bobi Wine is in early lead, which he has maintained up to the time of filing this report. As at 6pm, Bobi Wine had 129,498 votes and Museveni had 11,387.
It is reported that the incumbent president is not comfortable with the direction of events in the country, hence, he has released security operatives to attack his opponents.
It has also been gathered that several attempts, which was met with stiff resistance from the electorates, were made by security operatives including the police to snatch ballot boxes and rig the election.
Yaro said, “Since the youths have refused being used against their future, the incumbent president has decided to use the Ugandan police for ballot box snatching but the people are not giving up. I implore the Ugandan youths to stand up and fight for their future”
Nefertiti reported, “Bobi Wine is under attack. Museveni unleashed his dogs on Ugandans Bobi Wine is leading, the world must mount pressure on Museveni, not to change the results NO to sit tight African dictatorships”.
It is also gathered that the house of Bobi Wine has been surrounded by soldiers.
Another unconfirmed report revealed that Bobi Wine has been arrested.
Museveni is said to have shutdown internet facility and journalists and observers have been banned from proper coverage of the election.
In a message obtained on Twitter, Bobi Wine said, “Hello Uganda! Despite the wide spread fraud and violence experienced across the country earlier today, the picture still looks good. Thank you Uganda for turning up and voting in record numbers. The challenge now is for Mr. Byabakama and the EC to declare the will of the Pple”.
However, President Museveni has assured world that he would concede defeat if he loses in a free and fair election.
