Ebun Olowu
Popular Yoruba Actor, Chief Jimoh Aliu, popularly known as Aworo, is dead. He died today, September 17, 2020 at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State at the age of 80.
It was gathered that he just completed his new movie, Ori Ite, some days ago.
Born on November 11, 1939 in Okemesi, Ekiti State, Aliu is a seasoned artiste, producer, location designer, director, make-up artist and singer.
In 1959, Aliu joined the Ogungbe Theatre and left in 1966 to form the Jimoh Aliu Concert Party. This group was based in Ikare Akoko in Ondo State.
He later joined the Nigerian Army in 1967 but retired in 1975 with the aim of focusing on drama as well as promoting independent artist under the platform of Jimoh Aliu cultural group.
He became famous for his hit TV productions, “Arelu”, “Yanpon Yanrin”and “Iku Jare Eda” with famous characters like Fadeyi Oloro, Orisabunmi and Aworo.
Aliu was formerly married to the famous actress Folake Aremu (Orisabunmi), before they parted ways after 20 years of marriage.
He was honoured with a National Merit Award of Member of the Federal Republic (MFR) in December 2005.
