Reactions have began to trail the attack on the house of a frontline agitator of Yoruba Nation, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, where two people were killed and the Yoruba activist was declared wanted.
Several people from the South West in Nigeria have condemned the attack on the Yoruba activist, saying that the attack is not only on Sunday Igboho, but an attack on the entire Yoruba people by the federal government led by Muhammadu Buhari.
Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, described the attack as inexplicable and unfortunate, stressing that the attack was a clear indication that General Muhammadu Buhari is not a credible president.
In a chat with BBC, Fani-Kayode said that the attack and subsequent declaring of the Yoruba activist wanted clearly negate the promise of Buhari to install peace in the country as well as assuring Nigerians of their freedom to voice out their opinions freely about self determination, without being visited with anger and murder.
He said, “It is in the mind of some security men to kill Sunday Igboho for some reasons. I am not sure that that attack actually represent the view of Buhari. I will be very surprised if there wasn’t more to this or somebody trying to set him up”.
Fani-Kayode berated the Buhari Government for using security operatives against Nigerians, who are resisting terrorists. “If government wants Sunday Igboho, he should be invited. He will honour the invitation because he is not a fugitive. He has not killed anybody. He is a man of peace. Igboho is a somebody that has honoured his words in terms of protecting the lives and property of non-Yoruba in the South West. This is somebody that is fighting for self determination and Oduduwa Republic. He is somebody that believes in peace and is soft spoken and act as an honourable man. So, what has happened?”, he added.
Calling on all men of goodwill in Nigeria to come together to caution the federal government against hurting Sunday Igboho, he said, We should appeal to the government not to do anything that would push Nigeria into uncontrollable situation.
“The greatest mistake that any individual, any government or any group of people can ever make is to allow Sunday Igboho to be killed. That will take us to a point of no return. Anybody who has initiated this want to throw us into a war in this country”.
He further berated the Buhari’s Government for not creating a level play field regarding the arrest of insecurity in the country saying that the current government is quite soft on Fulani terrorists.
Also, a notable Yoruba traditional worshipper, Araba Ifayemi Elebuibon, likened the DSS attack on Sunday Igboho to armed robbery attack, stressing that the attack violate the principle of civility and the constitution of the country.
He said, “The attack is like a group of robbers wanting to rob somebody and robbing one of ones property. It means that men of DSS have come to hurt Sunday Igboho. In a civilised society, if you want to arrest somebody, when you get to his house, you will call him saying that he should surrender himself. The police will stay around until the person comes out. The police may stay for 10 hours or three days waiting for such to come out. May God help Yoruba now because the Federal Government has declared war on the Yoruba”.
